 Starved
Rock State Park is about an hour due west of the southern suburbs, on
I-80. We went out to explore the park last weekend and it is just
beautiful. There are lots of outdoor activities such as: exploring the
numerous hiking and bike trails along canyons with splashing waterfalls.
Saddle up a horse from the corral just outside the park gates. Bring
along a fishing rod to try your luck with catfish, walleye and white
bass. Enjoy Illinois River boating activities such as: jet ski,
paddleboat and canoe rentals, or narrated cruises and Everglades Boat
rides. Or be brave and take a 9-mile whitewater-rafting trip at the
nearby Vermillion River.

Our
shelter is located just across from the boat launch area, and is nestled
between the children’s play area and the restrooms (w/real toilets).
It comes equipped with running water, electrical outlets, and 2 barbeque
pits, so we will be able to play music, watch TV, and easily prepare a
grand feast at the picnic site!

|
Come
out for the day, or spend Saturday night or the whole weekend out there
– it’s your choice. I have secured a block of 20 rooms at a rate of
$65 for Saturday night at: |

– it’s not the Ritz!!! But the hotel provides guests with many
full-service amenities including free deluxe continental breakfast, free

VERMILLION
RIVER WHITEWATER RAFTING
- $25 per person
|
|
Vermillion
River Rafting supplies a 4 or 6 man raft, paddles, life vests
and rafting instructions. They also rent funyaks, an inflatable
type of kayak for $35 per person. We also shuttle your vehicle
to the Oglesby bridge take out point, so it's right there
waiting for you when you get out of the raft.

leave at 10am, 12pm, 2pm & 4pm. Minimum age - 10 yrs.

SWIMMING

swimming is not allowed in the park, the private White Oak
Campground nearby offers the public use of its swimming hole for
